Hi I’m Sophia and welcome to my blog! I have a huge passion for healthy nutritious food and the little things in life!
My blog began at the beginning of 2014 when I suddenly became very poorly; I have been suffering from chronic neuropathic pain from the waist down since 2008 but the symptoms I was getting in early 2014 were very different. They had a dramatic effect on my life – I had to give up my job as a Speech & Language Therapist, my independance and my entire social life, I had a never-ending migraine/headache, my heart rate resting was the same as that of a healthy individual sprinting up a mountain, the pain had gotten worse, I had to use a wheelchair whenever I went out (which wasn’t often as I was too poorly) and the list goes on and on. I still have those symptoms and many more. It took a gruelling 18 months to get a diagnosis of Chronic Lyme Disease and Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome. I needed a way to express what I was feeling physically and mentally. To get everything down on ‘paper’ immediately made me feel better emotionally. My blog quickly turned into a platform for me to share my story, to educate the general public on chronic pain and illness, and to help fellow sufferers.
When you become ill very suddenly and no-one knows what’s wrong with you, it makes you feel like you have lost all control over your life. Because I wasn’t being offered any conventional medicine when I first became ill, I decided to take matters into my own hands and began researching natural healing approaches. I started to make gradual changes to my diet – gluten was the first thing I cut out followed by dairy. I now lead a dairy free, gluten free, caffeine free, alcohol free, high nutrient, low refined sugar diet. Knowing that I’m giving my body the best chance possible at getting better makes me feel like I’ve regained some control, and even better – I absolutely LOVE the way I eat now! I would happily choose a piece of raw cheesecake over a bar of Galaxy any day of the week! I’ve learnt a lot about health and nutrition since I started my journey and I am so happy that I can share this with you. What started as a few simple changes to my diet has turned into a huge passion not just for food but for creating and making exciting new recipes that are not only healthy but they taste amazing too! I really hope you recreate and enjoy my recipes, it always makes my day when you do!
Have a lovely day and happy cooking –
